Trio Records is one of the most eclectic and genuinely surprising catalogs in jazz, a Japanese independent label whose nearly 1,000 releases span Contemporary Jazz, Free Jazz, Post Bop and far beyond, reflecting an unusually broad curatorial appetite for the era. Operating primarily through the 1970s, Trio served as the Japanese licensee for ECM and other key Western imprints, which is why Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert (1975) and Pat Metheny Group’s Offramp (1982) sit alongside homegrown Japanese talent in the catalog.
